Landscaping ideas water gardens

Landscaping ideas, designs, tips to consider to help the ordinary gardener who wants a clean, clear healthy water feature in the garden

.

Coming up with landscaping ideas for a garden in total is a pretty complex task since it involves matching environment with the area, the house and also the topography of the land on which your house is situated. I am not qualified to suggest landscaping ideas in this regard. I keep very much to my subject of creating accessible information that allows most homeowners or gardeners to benefit from fundamental water gardening landscaping ideas. If you are interested in general landscaping ideas then this site is not for you although I do hope you stay and look around a bit at least.

Creating a beautiful landscaped pond such as those seen at flower shows like Chelsea is a labour of love and they look wonderful .... just remember though that they are there for 3 or 4 days only and then they are destroyed. They also cost an absolute fortune to prepare. Your landscaped garden pond is forever and you probably do not have too much money to spend yet you still want your healthy clean and crystal clear pond .....

My understanding of landscaping ideas for water gardens

My understanding and judgement of successful landscaping as far as a garden fish pond is concerned is very simple ..... is it an asset, easy to maintain and most of all are the fish and plants as well as their owner happy with the creation? Perhaps, more than anything, successful landscaping ideas implementation should be judged not on how pretty the pond looks when just installed but rather on the fact that the water is clear, clean and healthy day in and day out. After all anyone can dig a hole in the ground .... but can they keep it full of clean clear heathy water?

This web site has been created to provide  information to help any water gardener anywhere in the world understand and implement landscaping ideas for water gardens.

Just a point to ponder though .... let me differentiate between large scale serious koi ponds and the more normal yet no less desirable garden fish pond.

"Proper" koi ponds are different .... the first difference is normally more about the pondkeeper than the koi fish. To grow koi fish to large size needs space and extra special attention to breeding stock, pond environment factors, and especially water quality. This automatically means the pond investment will be very significant.

Garden fish ponds tend to be fairly small, say up to 2,000 gallons and have been built for the love of plants and wildlife in general as well as the need to add a tranquil setting that only water can provide to the garden. The cost is reasonable as distinct from the high cost of building "real" koi ponds.
